Living Anew Therapeutic Massage is the product of 9 years in the business of bodywork and massage as well as lifetime of experiences beginning with childhood sports, college athletics, spirituality and healing, beautiful teachers, and a car wreck. We all have our stories to share. A past which brought us to the person we see in the mirror. What if we loved those stories and let them go? You know, focused on the present and the steps we are taking to create the tomorrow we want. Literally, Living Anew. To live in a new or different and usually a more positive way. Through a combination of structural massage and bodywork techniques to release physical tension and stress management  and self-care education, hopefully you, too, will begin to Live Anew.

About

Owner, Megan (Crystal) Mendes, would like everyone to choose health and wellness for themselves through Massage Therapy and Bodywork, stress management by way of exercise, sleep, and proper nutrition, as well as positive thought. Living Anew Therapeutic Massage is dedicated to empowering you to do just that.

Hey Y'all!

I am the owner and operator, janitor, educator, head LMT of Living Anew Therapeutic Massage. I am into my 19th year of practicing Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

I began my pre-massage training in 1999 when I entered the University of Oklahoma.  While at OU, I completed a Bachelors Degree of Science in Health and Sports Sciences while throwing the Shot Put and Discus for the OU Track Team. Upon graduation, and after many experiences with my own body through injuries from throwing, Olympic style lifting, and intense training, I decided soft tissue bodywork was my calling. How perfect to have had such a great foundation in all things "human body" through my schooling and sport.  A beginning in structural bodywork seemed to be a brilliant fit, so I enrolled in Massage School. 14 months later I finished a 1200 hour Associates Degree of Therapeutic Massage at Heritage College in Oklahoma City.

Over the years, I have compiled many techniques and healing modalities including Deep Tissue, Anatomy Trains Structural Integration Fascial type work, Myofacial Release, Passive Release, Active Release, Joint Mobilization Stretching, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), Sports, Lymphatic Drainage, Pre and Post Natal, and now Cupping Therapy, among others, to create a specialized session for your specific needs.

I also believe it's very important to understand how we manifest our physical pain from emotional or mental stress from our jobs, toxic personal relationships, family, life, etc. I believe we have the power to change our life by becoming aware of our stressors, and working to change them through Self-Care.

My session with you will be one of education, listening, communication, and healing. One thing I feel very strongly about is making sure you have a better understanding of your body and how it functions in your daily life as well as posing solutions to promote self-care when I am not with you. I want you to feel your best and to also have the tools you need to work on your own Self.

I am a Parent Educator of Infant Massage through the International Association of Infant Massage and Infant Massage USA, (CEIM). I am, essentially, teaching parents and caregivers bonding and attachment through nurturing touch, among so much more to empower them in the understanding that they are the expert of their baby. I fully believe that through this class we are working to raise more compassionate and empathetic children, and more in-tune and connected parents.

Also in the works is a class for adults to learn massage techniques to use at home on partners, friends, family, etc. This will also include the anatomy of touch and why it's important in all relationships. Stay tuned….

Let’s get personal…I was born in Carlsbad, NM with my twin brother, Josh. After living in Louisiana and then Oklahoma for the greater part of my life, I packed up and moved to Austin in February of 2006. It’s strange to think that I’ve now lived in Austin longer than I’ve lived anywhere. Here in Austin, I enjoy spending time with my Husband, Brian, and our cats Mingus and Coltrane. When I’m not at work, you might find me listening to live music, on a trail, on a river, or working in my vegetable garden at home. I love to sit in silence, cook, and watch movies too.

Of all the places I have lived, Austin just feels like home. I have met many wonderful people here and have enjoyed my time in Texas. I look forward to more adventures ahead with Living Anew Therapeutic Massage as well as all the new people I'll serve through my work.

 - Much Gratitude!

   Megan

P.S. I want to be very clear. Massage and Bodywork is for everyone. I welcome all walks of life into my office. My Massage room is safe for you as I promise to honor and respect you as a human being, and will always treat you with the kindness and love you deserve. I believe everyone deserves to feel safe, heard, and cared for.
